Speaking Against Hate and Discrimination

February 12th, 2008 | Human Rights | 2 Comments »

I’m outspoken when it comes to discrimination, even among friends. However, there are times when you have to roll your eyes in exasperation and hold your tongue.

I’ve mentioned that I shall write various entries on discrimination (focusing on racial, religious and sexual orientation). Aside so, I’m prepping up an online activism community to speak about this cause of anti-discrimination and the serious problem of hate-crimes. Members will also be able to upload videos, photos and audio recording pertaining to this cause.

Having said that, I’m seeking volunteers to produce articles at the moment. I will reveal the URL when it is finished. I have certain people in mind for aiding me, but let’s see if they express interest.

Oh yes, the name of the community is: The Justice Tribunal. I assure you that it isn’t a play on a cartoon’s title: The Justice League.

P.S. I’m a bit sick in the head, aren’t I. I’m planning websites and neglecting the exam that is 3 days away.

Revising at Snails Pace

February 11th, 2008 | Life | No Comments »

As time eludes me, I still am at a sedate pace when it comes to revision. I am confident, at this juncture, without further preparations, that I’d score an average of B- for all modules. But that doesn’t cut it, does it.

I’ve got to wake up quick. And thereon, continuously prevent myself from being lulled into a false sense of security. Microeconomics and Business Statistics are potential killers and I’ve got to know these adversaries like the back of my hand.

Master myself, and I can master time. Master time and I can master those dreadful modules.

Two weeks left to freedom -two weeks of hell (Nah, just kidding.).

Knowledge Is Power

February 9th, 2008 | Confession,past life list | 2 Comments »

Within my life list, I have some goals that relate to each other. They lead to a common big picture, which I seek. And that common big picture can be summed up in three words: Knowledge is Power.

I am a big believer in the mind and its limitless capacity. I believe it can be used profitably in areas of finance, pleasure and more importantly, to transcend suffering. In this age of blind faith and propaganda, the mind is an essential point of defense. The world has seen how Hitler has used propaganda for genocide and is now seeing how terrorists are recruiting innocents to kill.

It is in light of my extreme examples that I seek to expand my mental faculties; I want to process information faster; be observant and not jump to conclusions; be calm and not worry or be temperamental. I have done my research and sought various avenues to reach my goals.

I shall list them below, without explanation for now:

  • Insight meditation (Vipassana)
  • Cognitive brain exercises
  • Diet filled with optimal brain foods (Green Tea, Salmon, Tuna, Blue Berries, etc.)
  • Physical exercise
  • Recreation, pursuing interests and socialising
  • Sleeping
  • Mind mapping
  • Soothing music (e.g. Mozart, new age)
  • Read and observe more

Just to add, I am not crazy. You’ve misunderstood if you think that I’ve constructed a daily regimen consisting of the above.

Bloggers Who Think a Full Account of their Day is Interesting

February 8th, 2008 | Insights-past | 4 Comments »

The web is filled with bloggers who believe the blow-by-blow account of their mundane life is interesting. They go on pointlessly without a certain point to make. Honestly, only the friends and stalkers of that particular blogger can stomach such entries.

Slightly better than the above mentioned are bloggers who digress. They first talk about the main point of the entry, then for some reason they give extra details at certain parts of the entry. Thereafter, they feel the need to give additional details on the extra details. Needless to say, the result is a huge digression, which causes readers to ponder what the hell the author is trying to say.

In my opinion, only kids should be excused from these mistakes of excess talk and disordered babbling. They are still learning the societal norms of conversation.

If you think that I’m harsh on people guilty of these excesses, I’m merely stating a fact. If you want to be understood, blog coherently. If you want to be listened to, cut out irrelevant details. After all the main, yet subconscious, reason of blogging is to be understood.

Would it be too late to mention that I’m guilty of babbling at times? Hey, no one’s perfect.

Ironic Chinese Reunion Dinner

February 7th, 2008 | Life | No Comments »

As with Christmas, the Chinese New Year reunion dinner today was nothing special. Around my cousins, I’m the extraordinary; an oddity.

I resent it. I really do. These are the people who I played with in my childhood. And they have progressed so infinitely.

While I fight for my share of happiness, they seem to take it for granted. I have to admit, I can and will never live up to the expectations of society and family. One day, I will leave before I am forsaken and fulfill my duties in monetary terms.

This is one of those entries that my readers cannot hope to understand. Only the select few will know and it is for them to know. But knowing and caring are different things. The irony…

Lunar New Year and Exams

February 6th, 2008 | Life | No Comments »

The time left for revision gets shorter everyday. I have a substantial amount of uncovered work piled from skipping lectures. Yet I haven’t started studying. It is thus a mystery as to why I ain’t worrying.

Perhaps it’s the Chinese New Year and the prospect of getting money. But somehow, I know that’s not the reason.

The Ang Pao economy will hit this year due to inflation. Brace yourselves as the issue gets worsened by the establishment.

As much as I can’t blame you for the weather causing the inflation, thank you for the GST increment and additional ERP gantry points (smiles sarcastically). You may as well install escalators on every bridge and place a one dollar gantry for crossing over…

Happy Lunar New Year everyone!

The Irony of You

February 5th, 2008 | Prose | No Comments »

Under the starry skies shall we lay for eternity. Calming acoustic sounds drift from the distance. It is upon the sands of time that we sit, listening to the whispering seas. Discussing the cosmos of life and death and as ever shall I appreciate your voice.

As the cool zephyr sieves through your hair, like it does the palm trees, your ethereal face shan’t go unnoticed. And while we huddle for warmth, we draw our breaths as one. Thereon, eyes closed, your scent is adequate reassurance.

With suddenness, I gasp; you are gone. Too bad. This is but a dream… Irony…
