Season Of Armour

The holiday season is here. Some time during my week-long  stay in camp, Christmas decorations have crept up in shopping malls. It is certainly a refreshing change of scene from the same old boring armoured vehicles in my camp.

During this unannounced hiatus, my military platoon has moved into the unit headquarters. This presents much of a challenge because the existing platoon at the headquarters are a rowdy bunch; one-eighth of them have visited detention barracks (which is another word for military prison). And my platoon’s task at hand is to prevent ourselves from being taken advantaged of.

However, other than being constantly late, uncouth in their manner of speaking and arguing with the sergeants, they have gotten along with us quite well. After all, the live range shoot went rather well yesterday.

Besides the eventful move into headquarters, I have applied for overseas leave during mid-December for a trip to Thailand with Mandy. I am hopeful that we will find many bargains in the land of smiles.

This is all I have to update. I will have to book into camp tomorrow and prepare to train in setting up concertina wires.

Halloween Plans

In my desperate attempt to be positive (and have things to look forward to), I am going to make plans for Halloween. I am torn between choosing something quiet among close friends and clubbing in outrageous costumes.

Here are some of my plans:

Dragon Village Halloween down at Clark Quay (with clubbing)

This is to honour the first Halloween celebrated by my fellow poly-mates (villagers) whom I miss dearly.

Karaoke at The Thai Pub

If my poly friends see this post, please respond with your own suggestions or preference.

Zouk Is Definitely Out

Once again I was at Zouk (and Phuture) on Saturday evening. Managed to do a bit of shuffling and wild dancing, but the crowd was as ever intolerable. I do not like dancing there at all. Most of the time spent on the dance floor was to push other clubbers.

Why the hell does Bala like that place so much? I’m definitely going back to my ‘homeland’ (St James Powerhouse) the next time.

Ze An described his experience there succinctly in his own words: “Why the hell did I pay $43 to dance with guys!?”. Mandy and Vanessa allowed their actions to fully express what their words could not; they left Zouk before the party ended, stating that the crowd was unbearable. Eugene had full view of my exasperated, frustrated and incredulous facial expressions for the night.

At the very least I’m profoundly grateful for the company there. Mandy (who I danced insanely with), Vanessa (who was awesome at concocting the alcohol mixes), Eugene (and gang who kept me entertained; especially the joker who grinded guys who kept pushing us at the dancefloor), Bala (and Jhansi, who were being disgustingly mushy), Nicholas(who danced briefly with me just to prove that he wasn’t standing against the wall for the entire night), Guan Yu (who kept me entertained during the cab ride home when both Guan Kai and Agatha were sleeping), Ze An (who complained about paying to dance with guys), Guan Kai (who flirted irritatingly with two girls) and Agatha (who is awesomely eccentric and bold). I’ve left out some names because some people prefer to remain ninja.

Also, I became tipsy faster this time. Doubtlessly, it was because of the Panadols and antihistamines that I took less than an hour before drinking the alcohol.

Do any of my readers have recommendations for a nightclub in Singapore with good music and little crowds?

Zouk Is Out?

I’ve been to Zouk (and Phuture) for some partying on Good Friday, and I’m disappointed by the nightclub. There are mainly three types of clubbers: (1) The drinkers, (2) The dancers and (3) The pick-up artists. I belong to category two, the dancers.

Let’s just say I’m a dancer who needs a lot of space and neither Zouk nor Phuture allows me to move. I would be satisfied to be able to move my legs a little but I was suffocating in a sea of grinding clubbers. I could only stand and rock my body awkwardly most of the time.  To add to the insult of the experience, the music wasn’t good. There were only ten-second snippets each of the choruses of ‘Just Dance’, ‘Pokerface’ and other club favourites.

But allow me to give out some positive points. I enjoyed the drinks served at Zouk and it was my first time trying out the Flaming Lambo and two shots of Seven Dwarves. The service standard was good. The staff was friendly and quick.

The highlight, I suppose, was when I broke off from the suffocation and went down the stairs to an emptier area leading to Zouk. There was a shuffler, doing a crazy shuffle. I just stood there and watched his awesomeness.

Hmm… Not sure if this is also a highlight, but it was my first time having bouncers push through the crowd to break up two fights. When we left, there was blood on the stairs.

In any case, it might be due to the public holiday that Zouk is so packed. I hope my next visit on the coming Saturday would be more than awesome.

Baby Aloe Veras and Clubbing Cactuses

I worked-out today and trained for my weaknesses in the NAPFA Test.

While heading out the house, I saw a stack of court documents pasted on the gates. Apparently it was a writ of summons. For the benefit of readers who lack technical knowledge in law, it means some monkey has applied to the courts to sue. Without a doubt, this matter has some weight in my mind. My allusion that the plaintiffs are monkeys should be crystal clear as to my feelings towards this. I have no desire of discussing this matter further.

On hindsight, I ought to have a solid exercise plan to prevent myself from giving half-hearted attempts when exercising. Apart from this piece of reflection, some old geezer was sneezing loudly into the wind at the fitness corner. It was disgusting to see pieces of phlegm flying into the wind. This sums up the interesting points of the workout session.

[wordbay]aloe vera plant[/wordbay]

When I returned dirty and smelly, my sister asked that I help her in her hydroponics project. The school had give out hydroponics starter kits with plant seeds, so that the students had hands on experience with hydroponics. Since I was already helping her, I decided to re-pot the young aloe vera plants. I love gardening and plants.

Do not listen to Harris’s accusations that I killed a cactus. I was young and it was an accident. I had somehow decided that the cactus would enjoy dancing. So when I shook it in imitation of some hip hop dance, the top of it broke off. And I forgot to water it. Damn… clubbing cactus.

I now have (relatively) green fingers okay? It’s just that I lack the patience to grow Bonsais. Yes, the Bonsai seeds that I bought 2 years ago are still in the box.

Oh my gosh… Did I actually write this in the Bonsai entry?

That said, the bonsai growing process is a killer. I should have gotten a cactus at the supermarket instead. Then again, I managed to kill my previous cactus the last time. Better not let my bonsai hear that…

Fantastic Friday At St James

I’m in love with Powerhouse at St. James. Though it has been two days, I still feel the music pounding and my body pulsates to the imaginary beats when I drift off to sleep.

I was dancing all night with Ais and Mandy, and it was amazing to see them go crazy in heels. Throughout the night, I’d glance at a regular who caught my eye. I cannot attest enough at how I’d faint from the hotness. It made me feel both melancholic and high. Melancholic because I know it’d never happen. It was funny how both Ais and I occasionally stared at opposite directions, and we gave each other the knowing look.

As a side note, the three of us (Ais, Mandy and I) are intimate friends. Despite having not seen each other for some time, we reconnected readily. Pointed out by her mom, Ais and I have similar features and seem like twins in a few photos. And yes, we have some sort of twin telepathy.

As the night progressed, the lights suddenly darkened and a spotlight shone on a clubber who was shuffling insanely on stage. Some of us stopped just to watch her. Then everyone on the dance floor went wild and cheered on the girl. She was already tiring out, but the moment she heard the crowd, the surge of adrenaline allowed her to continue. Mandy and I shouted and clapped when she was done. Haha.

The last song toned down to a slow version of Umbrella by Rihana. Mandy and I rested on the the couch, legs totally wobbly and sang along. Strangely enough, no one had vacated the club. Mandy’s friend who worked there informed us that the police has raided the place so no one could leave.

Sighs. Fantastic Friday night…
